Kusmunda was part of Kosabadi and it was made a parish in 1993 but formally erected in 1995, and Rev. Fr. Edward Toppo, SAC was appointed the first priest in-charge. Kusmunda is a mining area and so the people have come from various other places and settled down or made their abode. Some people after their retirement are going away and hence the future of the parish is not so bright. The parish was formerly run by Pallottine Fathers, which has now been handed over to the Archdiocese. Now for the last few years the parish is managed by Diocesan priests.
