Sacred Heart parish, Bilaspur was bifurcated and a new parish was  created in 1979 and Rev. Fr. Libinus Toppo was appointed parish priest. The parish has grown quite large with settling down of lots of tribal people migrated or transferred to Bilaspur due to employment. A hostel for college going students was started but later on closed down and converted into Shanti Niwas, a retreat center. Now Shanti Niwas is shifted to Chatuna near High Court building and the place is used to run an Eng. Med. school by the Pallottine Fathers. The Sisters of St. Francis (OSF) run an English Medium School at Ameri and a dispensary. The Holy Cross Sisters (SCSC) run a Hindi Medium School.
