In December 1969 Mahasamund became a mission centre with Rev. Fr. Julian Fernandez as its first priest-in-charge. He started a technical center and made all efforts to form a worshipping community. Having about 15 families the parish was formally erected on June 3, 1970. The present church was built by Rev. Fr. Thomas Vadakedath. As it has become the district headquarter the number of the faithful has also increased. There is an English Medium School (CBSE) up to class XII run by the Archdiocese. Franciscan Clarist Sisters render their services in the parish as well as in the Archdiocesan school here.
